Otolaryngology (Ear, Nose and Throat)


An otolaryngologist specializes in surgery of the head and neck and treats diseases of the face, head and neck, ear, nose, paranasal sinuses and upper and lower breathing and food passages. Typical problems treated by an otolaryngologist include tonsillectomies, hearing loss or dizziness, traumatic or congenital defects of the face or neck, tumors in the head and neck area, hay fever and allergies. Cosmetic surgery of the face, head and neck may also be performed by an otolaryngologist. After earning an M.D. degree, an otolaryngologist must spend five years in a residencyprogram.
